Mike Jones

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of our club president Mike Jones, who passed away peacefully early this week, surrounded by his family.

This is an incredibly sad day for our club, as Mike has been Mr Seatoun for close to 60 years—perhaps even longer! Aside from a brief stint at Stop Out, he dedicated his life to Seatoun, always ensuring that football was available and enjoyed by everyone—young and old, social and competitive.

Mike first joined the Seatoun committee as a teenager, and has grown into the beating heart of the club. Over the years, he held every imaginable role—player, coach, administrator, bartender, club president, handyman, and more. His dedication was unmatched, keeping the clubrooms open every Saturday of the year, closing only when Christmas fell on a Saturday.

Not only was Mike a Seatoun legend, but he also represented New Zealand, earning four international caps in 1969.

He was a champion of the women’s game, guiding Seatoun’s women’s teams to multiple Central League titles. A fiercely loyal club man, Mike gave 150% to Seatou, advocating for every part of the club and always backing his beloved blue. His cheeky banter, humour, and unwavering passion will be deeply missed.

💙 Mike’s funeral will be held this Friday, 7th March, at Seatoun AFC club rooms at 1pm.

Our thoughts are with Mike’s family.

Thank you, Mike, for everything. Seatoun AFC—and football in Wellington—will not be the same without you.
